Elizabeth S. Holder

Champaign-Urbana's Local Injury Lawyers

Pursuing catastrophic injury claims takes a mix of experience, skill, and tenacity while also maintaining genuine empathy for clients. This is not a common set of tools and is why I am uniquely positioned to help.

Betsy Holder formed The Holder Law Group, LLP after eleven years of private practice in the personal injury arena. She began her career as an associate attorney with Phebus & Koester, LLP, now Koester & Bradley, LLP, and then worked as a contract attorney heading up the personal injury litigation department at Steigmann Law, PC.

Betsy focuses a large percentage of her practice on car accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and trucking accidents. Her priority is helping her clients recover the maximum amount of compensation for the injuries they sustained. She has extensive knowledge and experience handling whiplash injuries and spinal injuries in the Thoracic and Lumbar spine regions.

Medical Malpractice is another area of law where Betsy focuses her practice. She maintains a strong interest in Obstetrics and gynecological medical malpractice. Betsy’s first seven figure recovery was a result of a physician’s failure to diagnose a gynecological cancer. She has also made recoveries in:

  • stillbirth cases
  • failure to diagnose cases in premature infants, which led to death
  • failure to diagnose and treat infection cases
  • failure to diagnose and treat stroke cases
  • pacemaker negligence cases
  • negligent surgical procedure cases
  • hospital negligence resulting in injuries from falls, which occurred while a patient was in a hospital

In addition to litigation, Betsy has experience in alternative dispute resolution practices including mediation and arbitration, which can be effective alternatives for reaching successful outcomes in personal injury cases without the expense or stress of trial.

Betsy's legal career has included work within large and small law firms, she has worked on complex class action litigation, medical malpractice cases, slip and fall cases, trucking and automobile accidents, as well as an assortment of other smaller personal injury cases. She interned for Davis Polk and Wardwell in New York City, a multi-national litigation firm and had experience representing Arthur Andersen LLP in portions of the Enron case.

On a smaller scale, she was awarded a Barristers Fellowship from Vermont Law School to work at Have Justice- Will Travel. Inc., a small pro bono law firm which assists victims of domestic violence in rural areas of Vermont.

Pro-Bono and volunteer work are extremely important to Betsy. She has provided a number of pro-bono legal services to not-for-profit organizations throughout the Champaign-Urbana community as well as to the Latino community. She served on the Board of Directors at the Montessori School of Champaign Urbana, was a member of the Junior League of Champaign Urbana, and chaired both the Festival of Trees and annual Gala, and a former Founder and Board President at Mothers Morning Out, NFP.

Betsy has a hands-on approach with her clients and is always accessible. She is eager to assist her clients in the different legal areas that might be impacted in a personal injury case. This includes the handling of medical bills, liens, estates, powers of attorney and other unforeseen legal issues that impact victims of personal injuries.

Betsy has been actively engaged in representing members of the Latino community and provides translation services to Spanish-speaking clients.

Betsy attended Champaign Central High School and after graduating headed to the East Coast. She was a member of the Varsity Women’s Golf Team at Dartmouth College, the small Ivy League institution located in Hanover, New Hampshire. She graduated with a major in Religious Studies and a minor in Philosophy. Betsy remained in the North East for law school, graduating in the top 10% of her class from Vermont Law School in South Royalton, Vermont in 2006. Betsy returned back to the Champaign area following graduation where she resides with her husband, Ryan Bradley, also an attorney, and three daughters and one son.
